Show Your Vaccination Card!

Cities across the United States are requiring — not on your honor — requiring to see your vaccination card for COVID. Frankly, I’m good with that. Mine is electronically saved on my mobile phone and it’s easy to show. It’s important because if we want to ensure the safety of everyone in the venue, it’s the only way to be sure.
Most of the cities that are requiring this requirement are run by very liberal leaders. Here’s the rub. Those same liberal leaders fight tooth and nail against having someone show ID to vote! Voting is the most sacred right of citizenship. After all, to ensure the vote is counted, it should and must be those who have the right to do so.
It’s not about suppressing the vote. It’s not about putting a roadblock — it is about ensuring that those who cast a vote are legally bound to do so. I’ve heard the arguments and frankly, they just don’t meet the common sense test.
Let’s go deeper. We are carded at bars. We have to show a legitimate ID to fly on an airplane or rent a car. We have to show ID when admitted to a hospital. We have to show ID to enter some government buildings. Now, we have to show vaccination cards to do so as well… bars, restaurants, entertainment venues, etc.
In fact, as a citizen, any — repeat — any legal citizen can get a government issued ID. If that is the barrier that is used; then let’s send out mobile units to validate citizenship and issue a voter ID if that’s the answer. Why wouldn’t that be difficult? We are sending proxies into the same neighborhood to sign up people to vote.
So, why should this be something every American citizen should want? Every person in this country is entitled to the rights and privileges under the Constitution of the United States — and it is voting — the singular right that is only provided citizens. Further, and this is important — elected officials take an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States from the US President down to some local officials; but all Federal officials to include every member of Congress. Therefore, isn’t that obligation to protect the Constitution, the inherent obligation to protect the right to vote?
I want everyone to vote. I want everyone to exercise that right. At the same time, I am appalled when I read about harvesting votes, or dead people “voting, or a myriad of other issues associated with the vote. I want my vote to count. I want my elections officers to ensure my vote is counted and that only those votes that are legal are counted. Asking for ID certainly doesn’t suppress the vote. In fact, without it, the confidence we have now in our elections is waned and over time, that confidence is eroded to the point where anyone’s vote does’t really count — and that’s dangerous.
